Special Investigations Unit

About the Unit

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), functions as an extension of a patrol officer's preliminary investigation. The team is comprised of one detective sergeant, one detective corporal, and four detectives. When crimes cannot be quickly solved within the course of a day, they may be assigned to SIU as a part of an in-depth investigation.

SIU focuses on reducing crimes in our community by tracking crime-related opportunities and responding before an offense takes place. The unit often works closely with other law enforcement agencies such as FDLE, ATF, DEA, and Homeland Security tracking individuals such as gang members, sexual offenders and high profile suspects.

SIU addresses problems related to illegal drugs, vice-related crimes, alcohol and licensing enforcement, and serial crimes such as armed robberies and smash-and-grab burglaries that fall outside the realm of traditional investigative and patrol duties.
