Backyard hens are now permitted in Jacksonville Beach.
Single-family properties that are in RS-1, RS-2, and RS-3 zoning districts that have at least 5,000 square feet of property are permitted to have up to five female chickens. Please refer to Ordinance Number 2020-8132 (PDF) for regulations pertaining to the keeping of hens.
Completion of the Poultry Management Seminar offered by the Duval County Agricultural Extension Office is required to apply for a Backyard Hen Permit. Applications for a Backyard Hen Permit will not be accepted without verification of completion of the Poultry Management Seminar.
